Giant Magnet Can Help Solve California's Drought
A giant electromagnet, resembling something out of a fantasy or sci-fi movie, is being used in California to combat drought. Hanging from a helicopter about 200 feet off the ground, the magnet can detect underground water sources up to 1,500 feet deep, similar to a superhero’s ability. This technology is vital as the state heavily relies on groundwater stored in aquifers, which provide 40% of water in non-drought years and 60% during droughts, and holds three times more water than current reservoir storage.
