Ancient Sea Sponges are Saying Temps have Risen by 0.9 Celsius
A controversial study led by McCulloch suggests that global temperatures have already surpassed the 1.5°C warming target and could exceed 2°C by the end of the 2020s, challenging conventional estimates and indicating a faster rate of warming than previously thought. The study, based on ancient sea sponges, proposes that temperatures have risen by 0.9°C, significantly higher than the IPCC’s estimate of 0.4°C, altering the understanding of the pre-industrial period and raising concerns about meeting the goals of the Paris Agreement.
