Scientists are suggesting the addition of a Category 6 classification for hurricanes with wind speeds surpassing 192mph, citing climate change as a driving factor behind their increasing intensity. The current hurricane classification system, the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale, is criticized for failing to adequately address the diverse risks posed by hurricanes, including storm surge and rainfall, as major hurricanes become more frequent and intense.
