Ultra-White Paint Could be Replacing Our A/C Units Soon
Scientists at Purdue University have developed an ultra-white paint that could eliminate the need for air conditioning while combating climate change. The paint, containing barium sulfate and different-sized particles, reflects up to 98.1% of sunlight and repels infrared heat. In outdoor tests, surfaces coated with the paint were found to be 19°F (10.5°C) cooler than the surroundings at night and 8°F (4.4°C) cooler under strong sunlight, offering a promising solution for reducing energy consumption from cooling systems as global temperatures continue to rise.
