Washington Still Lacking in Preparations for "The Big One"
The Northwest coast awaits an impending catastrophe known as the Big One: an enormous offshore earthquake of approximately 9.0 magnitude that will trigger tsunami waves towering over 60 feet. Shockingly, Washington’s preparations for this disaster have been severely lacking compared to neighboring states. Even if efforts to prepare accelerate, the Coast Guard, despite their motto of being “Always ready,” will face a daunting challenge in rescuing survivors and protecting themselves. The certainty of this impending disaster, though its timing remains uncertain, will obliterate all previous preparations, leaving coastal defenders and those they defend in a perilous life-or-death situation.
