Microplastic and Nanoplastic Diet for a Sick Planet

Two new studies highlight the presence of nanoplastics and microplastics in both bottled water and various protein sources. One study, published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, reveals that a liter of bottled water may contain nearly a quarter million pieces of nanoplastic particles, with some passing into human blood and placental fluid. The second study, published in Environmental Pollution, indicates that nearly 90% of 16 different types of protein commonly consumed by people, including seafood, chicken, beef, and plant-based alternatives, contain microplastics.
