Discarded Oyster Shells Can Cool Down Buildings & Cut Energy Costs
Cool Roof France, a company aiming to reduce building temperatures in a sustainable manner, is utilizing waste oyster shells to create thermo-reflective roof paint. The oyster shells, which contain calcium, are used to replace traditional calcium in paint, offering improved performance and durability. This oyster-enriched paint reflects 90% of the sun’s rays away from a building, reducing its temperature by six to seven degrees Celsius on average, potentially resulting in a 30% to 50% reduction in energy consumption for air conditioning systems.
