Bottom Trawling Could Be Releasing Tons of CO2

A recent study reveals that bottom trawling, a fishing method that drags huge nets across the sea floor, not only damages marine ecosystems but also releases significant amounts of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, contributing to global warming. This unaccounted source of carbon emissions, estimated at around 370 million tonnes annually, is double the emissions of the entire world’s fishing fleet and poses a threat to climate and wildlife.
